Is Custom Home Building Right for Me?

Everyone comes from different backgrounds with unique needs when it’s time to look for a forever home. With so many options, it can be hard to know where to start and which choice will best fit you. A few questions might come to mind: Is it better to build a home or buy? Is custom home building right for me? Here are some things to consider when deciding which route is best for you.

Consider Building a Home When:

  • Your budget allows for it: Our homes typically range from $466K to $1.5M
  • You are comfortable with the timeline: Allow seven months to a year from when you decide you are ready to build to provide ample time for plans, financing, and construction.
  • You want to incorporate custom finishes, floor plan, and style
  • Your expectations for a finished home are realistic: Although our homes are works of art built on site by quality craftsmen, no home is perfect.
  • You want to ensure your home is constructed to the latest building code: Building codes evolve to improve safety and building performance.
  • You want lower home maintenance costs: New homes provide less maintenance for owners.
  • You want to live in the up-and-coming neighborhoods: Building a custom home allows you to decide the area and community that is right for you and your dream home.

Consider Buying an Existing Home When:

  • There are no lots available in the area you want to live, and a teardown and rebuild is not an option: While we only take a few remodel projects a year, this may be something to consider (Tip: just because a property isn’t on the market doesn’t mean it’s not for sale).
  • You do not want to make a lot of decisions: There are many decisions to be made while building a custom home. We have streamlined the process and have a designer available to help you along the way, but if making a lot of decisions is not for you, ask if a semi-custom build is a better route.
  • Your priority is maximizing your square footage for the lowest price: You can typically get more square footage at a lower price point in a pre-owned home.
  • You are not sure you can trust your builder: Think of the buyer-builder relationship as long-term, because it is!
